Angela Palmieri is an artist of Casamassima who attends theBiennium Specialist in Graphic Design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bari. The work Leda and the Swan tells a story from Greek mythology: Leda was the charming Queen of Sparta, daughter of Thestius. She was the wife of King Tyndareus of Sparta, and he had two daughters, Clytemnestra and Elena, whose beauty was the Trojan war. Zeus fell in love with her and to see came down from the sky and reached the Summit of Mount Taygetos. While Leda slept on the banks of a pond, was awoken by the squawking of the wings of a Swan candid; around there was perfume of ambrosia that the dazed and the Swan with her sinuous neck lovingly stroked his face, her hair and her arms. While Leda slept on the banks of a pond, was awoken by the squawking of the wings of a Swan candid; around there was perfume of ambrosia that the dazed and the Swan with her sinuous neck lovingly stroked his face, her hair and her arms. It was Zeus who to bring it closer turned into Swan and as soon as the young Queen awoke, he recognized and heralded that their love would be born. The episode mythological more times proposed in the iconographic by numerous artists, from Leonardo to Give them, from Correggio to Cézanne, reinterpreted comes in the work that imposes indeed him for its expressive position: who observes place it immediately comes in a state of strong emotional activation. The sensual figure of Injures he hacks and contemporarily he loses and it is imprisoned in a background made of sinuous forms that weave him. The swan, in the low part of the painting, you/he/she is imprisoned by the ropes and, you/he/she cannot not only go toward Injures, but you/he/she is pushed in the oppositedirection. In other words, protagonists and master of the scene they are the ropes that estrange Zeus from his “prey.” Metaphorically, they represent the difficult emancipation of the woman: while in the classical myth Zeus succeeds in possessing Injures, in this reinterpretation of the episode, the woman succeeds in releasing and to escape the sexual impulses of Zeus. What upsets it is that, after centuries of history, the woman still has to fight for something that is up to her as human being.
