ANTONELLA DORONZO | FRANCESCO DADDARIO

CONTAMINAZIONE FOLLE | Antonella Doronzo

Looking at Antonella Doronzo’s paintings is like suddenlymeeting with the unconscious and its emotions; her choice towards the use of old wooden materials with their histories and backgrounds alternates with pictures producing always new sensations. While attending the academy she conceived “Voglia” ,”Eva”, “Estasi” and Giangiulio”. The years of the academy were characterized by an ever growing experimentation of techniques, particularly based on studying and blending photography and the psychology of art, which are clearlyperceivable in these introspective works. Her main themes are the re-evaluation of fears and convulsive states as a remedy to anxiety and anguish, and in her study she treats “madness” with an allegorical intent. The result is like a “foolish contamination”. Colours well represent portrayed emotions through blurred contrasts which evoke what is defined as “convulsive moods” by the artist. The wood, eaten away by time, is permeated by the emotions described, and its veins and fibres, as well as the marks in the clothes, suggest a play of lines and mental paths which are fixed in the painting and give it expressive force. It is easy to find in her workswhat has not been described in the painting, a kind of niche of emotions where the eye of the spectator rests after goinginto the artist’s moods and embracing them. The study of emotions, the surmounting of fears through their re   evaluations brought Antonella Doronzo to develop a particular bent for art therapy. Her works aim at helping human psychologyto improve. Antonella Doronzo lives and works in Barletta.
